BeanRitual

BeanRitual keeps an espresso recipe for each bag of coffee on your shelf.

You photograph the bag and the app reads the label for you, then you log each shot (dose, grind, time, yield and how it tasted) and star the one that worked. It's free, on iPhone.

Questions

The app read my label wrong.

Tap the field and type the right value. The app only fills fields that are empty, so your fix stays. Once the bag is saved, open the coffee and tap Edit.

If the roast date is missing, it's often on the back or the bottom of the bag. Add a photo of that side and the app reads it too.

It says "Couldn't read the label."

That happens with no network, when the reading takes more than 10 seconds, or after a lot of labels from one phone in a day. Type the fields yourself. Logging shots works offline.

Do I need an account?

No. You never sign up, and the app never asks for an email address or a password. The only place to leave an email is the beta list on the home page.

Where is my data?

On your iPhone, in the app's own database. The photos of your coffee bags go to our server for the few seconds the reading takes, and the server deletes them right after. The privacy policy lists exactly what leaves your phone and when.

How do I delete a coffee, or everything?

On your shelf, swipe a coffee to the left and tap Delete. Its tries and label photos go with it. You can also open the coffee and tap Delete this coffee at the bottom.

To remove everything, delete the app.
